The Brief

When air and light
become one object.

The IC AIR started with a simple challenge: most ceiling fans are purely functional objects that compromise the aesthetics of a room. The brief was to create something that earns its place in the home as a design object, not just a climate appliance.

The result unified air circulation and ambient lighting into a single minimal form, commercialized through The Modern Fan Co across Brazil and the US market, reaching 30,000+ units sold.

Design Process

Sculpture, function,
and manufacturing.

01 · Discover

Understanding the Home Environment

Researched how consumers interact with ceiling fans in living spaces, identifying the tension between functional need and aesthetic desire. Analyzed competitor landscape and identified the design gap between industrial-looking fans and premium interior objects.

02 · Conceive

Form Language Exploration

Explored organic, architectural, and abstract forms. The breakthrough concept emerged from studying how light diffuses through natural structures, leading to the integration of light source within the blade geometry itself.

03 · Develop

Materials, Manufacturing & Motor Integration

Resolved the complex engineering challenge of routing electrical connections through a rotating sculptural form. Specified materials for durability, light transmission, and aesthetic quality at production volume.

04 · Launch

Commercialization via Modern Fan Co

Partnered with The Modern Fan Co for distribution across Brazil and the US. The product launched to strong commercial reception and earned the Gold European Product Design Award.
