The Brief

Redefining what a
radio can wear.

The TLK25 Wi-Fi emerged from a clear challenge: frontline workers — from hospitality and retail to logistics and security — needed reliable push-to-talk communication without the bulk and complexity of traditional two-way radios.

The brief called for a wearable device that could integrate into the Motorola Solutions WAVE PTX ecosystem over Wi-Fi, allowing teams to communicate instantly across large venues and facilities — hands-free, clipped on, always ready.

The design had to balance ruggedness with approachability, professional credibility with everyday wearability, and advanced connectivity with intuitive simplicity.

Design Process

Designed for
the frontline.

01 · Research

Understanding the Frontline Worker

Conducted deep research into the daily realities of hospitality, logistics, and security workers — how they carry, interact with, and rely on communication devices throughout long shifts. Identified friction points in existing radio form factors: too heavy, too cumbersome, not clip-friendly, poor one-hand usability.

02 · Conceive

Wearable-First Form Language

Developed a wearable-first design language that broke from traditional radio conventions. The TLK25 was conceived as a badge-like device — vertically oriented, clippable, visually neutral — that workers would be proud to wear rather than hide. The iconic PTT button and indicator light were given priority ergonomic placement for instant, glance-free operation.

03 · Develop

Ergonomics, Durability & CMF

Refined the form through multiple rounds of physical prototyping, testing clip mechanisms, button force, and wearability across different body types and uniforms. CMF decisions — matte black with teal accent lighting — balanced visibility in low-light environments with a premium, professional aesthetic.

04 · Launch

Global Market Deployment

The TLK25 Wi-Fi launched globally as part of Motorola Solutions' WAVE PTX ecosystem, bringing enterprise-grade push-to-talk connectivity to a new class of frontline workers who previously relied on consumer smartphones or legacy radios with poor usability.

Product Highlights

Built for
every shift.

The TLK25 Wi-Fi connects to the WAVE PTX platform over enterprise Wi-Fi, enabling instant push-to-talk communication across large facilities without the need for radio frequencies or channel management.

Its wearable form — with a robust clip mechanism — allows workers to attach it to a lapel, belt, or lanyard, keeping hands free for the work at hand. A single large PTT button ensures reliable operation even with gloves or in fast-moving environments.

The LED indicator provides at-a-glance status in any lighting condition, while the compact profile minimizes fatigue during long shifts.
